Some time ago we took a look at the M65 Standard parka by Brandit, the German brand that specializes in military-style clothing.

We chose this design as it is a very popular one online and also because we were quite impressed with the standard design mentioned above. Now, let’s take a more in-depth look at this design.

When To Wear It

Brandit is the perfect brand for those who are interested in military-inspired clothing, and the M65 Giant parka is a very good representative design of that.

This is a hooded design, with a stowaway hood that can be zipped under the collar and used only when needed. The collar is medium-height and soft, so it does not stand up stuff on its own, which makes it a lot more comfortable.

There are two side pockets on this parka, which are handwarmer ones, and two flap pockets next to them. On the chest there are two more flap pockets, however there are none on the inside. They provide plenty of room, which makes this design quite practical for outdoor activities, especially sportive ones such as camping or hunting.

Its sleeve cuffs are adjustable in length and tightness, with Velcro flaps that fold upwards and straps that adjust the size.

This parka adjusts at the hem and waist with draw cords on both sides. This way you can fit it perfectly to your body and also help close off the jacket from the elements and cold of the outdoors.

As a detail feature and in true military fashion, there are shoulder tabs with buttons on both sides. The main zipper is full-length and it also comes with a storm placket which protects it from the elements.

The best thing about this design is its double layering, which consists of the outer shell and the inner lining made of soft and warm fleece. This lining is removable and it also comes with pit vents, in order to further help with breathability.

You can opt to wear it when the temperatures really drop, without having to do so during warm weather.

Because this is a military-inspired design, it can be worn for a variety of outdoor sports, as we said before, one of which being hunting, due to its colors, that we will see below.

However, it is a minimalist design, with color options that are suitable for casual wear, too.

Material

In regards to its fabric, M65 Giant is made of several materials, which differ on the shell and lining.

For the shell, the upper material is 100% Cotton, lined with 67% Cotton and 33% Nylon. The hood is made of 100% Cotton, while the sleeve lining is 100% Nylon. This combination gives this jacket weather-resistant abilities, however this is a design best suited for cold and dry weather rather than really wet conditions.

As for its inner removable lining, as we mentioned, it is made of fleece, which is 100% Polyester. Fleece provides great insulation, especially when it is thick and dense as it is in this jacket, and it also helps prevent overheating due to being mildly breathable.

The upper material of this inner lining is made of 100% Nylon and the collar is 100% Acrylic, knitted and elastic for better comfort and fit.

User Reviews, Feedback & Opinions

This parka comes with numerous online reviews, so there certainly is plenty to say about its performance, quality, design and fit.

The quality is expected of the price and, most importantly, the brand’s reputation. It is a well-made jacket, which wears comfortably, but tends to run a bit big, thus it is advisable to order one size smaller.

In regards to warmth, in combination with the inner lining, it is a very warm design that manages to ward off the cold without requiring heavy layering underneath.

The quality of its zippers is also commended from reviewers, which we think should be noted as zipper quality is often a complaint in other jackets.

It wears nicely and the sizeable pockets come in handy when out and about.

The main complaints are the lack of inner pockets, its size that tends to run large, as we said, and, for some, the patches and loaded symbolisms that relate to the military.
