Materials and Manufacture

Canada Goose uses nylon and polyester as their main fabrics, just like many popular outdoor clothing brands. They use only the best quality of fabrics to enhance the finishing of the products and make them durable.

Goose down, being the type of down with the best quality as we’ve seen here, is utilized for the most part of their down insulated parkas, but they also use duck down in some jackets.

Canada Goose follows the guidelines of the “Responsible Down Standard”, which means that the down material is traceable and responsibly sourced, with humanely treated animals that aren’t live-plucked.

The brand also uses merino wool and Coyote fur, which are also sourced responsibly. But in the past few years, Canada Goose has started reducing the amount of Coyote fur utilized.

As for their manufacturing process, it is an extensive process that includes 13 steps to make sure each and every detail is examined to create optimal quality products.

Price

The parka jackets are Canada Goose’s most popular items. They are considered as some of the best jackets in the market by many users who have tried and reviewed them online.

While they are highly durable and very insulating in harsh weather and low temperatures, they come with a quite high price tag that starts at around $600 and goes up.

However, another point in their favor is the fact that these are very long-lasting products and can be used for years to come, as many users have reported.

So, are these jackets worth the price?

The high durability, quality, and good insulation of these jackets make them worth the price, especially if you reside in very cold areas.

But, in our opinion, if you don’t need such high insulation because let’s say, for example, you live in the south of France, then in your case maybe it’s better to look at some more affordable jackets which are also lighter.

2. RUDSAK

A short history of the brand

RUDSAK is a 90s brand, launched by Evik Asatoorian in Montreal in 1994.

One of their first products was the black leather jacket, a symbol of nonconformity and rebellious spirit, which was also a source of inspiration for the brand founders, with many celebrities in popular movies wearing this type of jacket.

Now, more than 20 years after its foundation, RUDSAK has many products in its collection and has seen an important increase in popularity during the past years.

Among these products, you can find jackets, footwear, handbags, and many other accessories, for men, women, and kids.

Their most renowned items that immediately come to mind when we hear about this brand, are obviously their leather jackets, but also their parkas which come with trims of different colors that you can choose according to your style. And this is not something that we see very often in jackets brands.

RUDSAK, just as one might expect from a quality brand like this, utilizes only high-quality fabrics, leathers, and furs in the creation of their products, and this is also one of the reasons behind their popularity.

The brand has over 30 branded boutiques and also their online store if you want to try some of their items.

Materials and Manufacture

RUDSAK’s winter coats come with 800 fill-power goose down for their insulation, with a blend of 90% down of premium quality and 10% feather fill. As you probably know, and as we’ve explained in this article, goose down is, in the majority of cases, better than duck down at insulating and more expensive.

As for their manufacturing process, it includes close monitoring of each and every detail right from the conception of the product to its finished version.

Just like any reputable brand, RUDSAK focuses on innovation, which they believe is essential to constantly enhance the performance of their products, as well as their customers’ experience.

The high-quality leather they utilize is of lambskin and calf, and undergoes a tanning process that improves the product’s appearance.

RUDSAK is an environmentally conscious brand that follows the “Responsible Down Standard”, which means that their down products are created in cruelty-free and environmentally friendly conditions.

RUDSAK Website: Track Your Down

The down is certified and completely traceable. The source can be verified through their down-tracking program, allowing customers to find the source of the down used in their purchased product.

RUDSAK also utilizes HyperDry Allied down in some jackets, which is a patented technology that improves down’s water-resistance (down doesn’t insulate when wet, as we’ve explained here) and makes it easier to clean, while maintaining its softness and fluffiness.

Now let’s see the jacket we have selected for RUDSAK.

We have selected the Cervia down parka with a shell made of 100% polyester and a lining of 100% nylon. It comes with sleeves and trimmings that are made of genuine leather.

The storm hood is removable and its fur is from Asiatic raccoon from China. Also, the hood comes with front flaps and faux Sherpa lining.

The insulation is provided by a blend of 80% down and 20% feathers, and the jacket has several outer pockets.

Price

RUDSAK is a high-end brand, just like Canada Goose, and provides high-quality, luxurious jackets. The price tags of their jackets can easily reach on average $500-$600, which is quite high for many of us, although slightly more affordable than Canada Goose’s prices.

Are these jackets worth their price?

With such high prices, one can only expect high quality, attention to details and a very good performance. Well, RUDSAK has all these qualities, and that’s why in our opinion their jackets are worth the price.

3. Which Brand is Better?

When it comes to parka jackets to wear in places where winters are really cold, Canada Goose is one of the best choices you can make. There aren’t many brands that offer the same level of insulation with their products.

So, when it comes to insulation alone, Canada Goose has the upper hand in this case.

RUDSAK, too, offers some very warm jackets but, from what we have seen so far, their focus is not on the insulation alone, but on finding a balance between keeping you warm and making you look stylish and fashionable.

Which one is better? Which brand to choose?

If you’re going to a very cold place where you’ll stay out in nature for a long time and you are happy with a minimalist, classic style, you can choose Canada Goose. Their parkas will keep you warm and safe.

On the other hand, if you want more design options to choose from and you want to use your jacket in your day-to-day city life, you can choose RUDSAK and save some money too.

One Comment

  1. I like the comparison. However, it would be interesting to know where they made it. Canada? China?, etc… I think Canada Goose are making their jackets in Canada, and Rudsak in China. But I’m not 100% sure.
