1. Eddie Bauer
A short history of the brand
Eddie Bauer is a brand that boasts 100 years of history. From the first little store in Seattle, many goals have been achieved.
Founded in 1920 by Eddie Bauer, the first design patent comes in 1936 when the founder designs the first patented down jacket in America. Later, the company was the first independent company allowed to use a logo on the Army-issued uniform.
Through the years the company has also known bad periods. In spite of this, Eddie Bauer now counts 275 stores in North America, and continues producing high-quality products for guides and outdoor athletes all over the world.
Materials and Manufacture
With a huge range of products that go from men, women and kids outdoor apparel, to home and outerwear ones, the main fabrics used consist of Polyester and Nylon, but also natural fabrics such as cotton and wool.
Among the technologies used to create their fabrics, Eddie Bauer has developed WeatherEdge® for their breathable, waterproof and windproof products, in order to make you remain dry in extreme weather conditions.
They use down to make their jackets and other products isolated. To ensure comfort and help their products withstand moisture better, they use StormDown which is down with DWR coating, to improve down resistance to water and wet weather conditions.
As for synthetic insulation, Eddie Bauer use the Thermafill® synthetic insulator.
Thindown is another fabric created to maintain the same loft and compressibility as natural down, but with more weather resistance. It is an Italian product and it is an innovative fabric unique in its kind.
As we usually do in these comparisons, we will now take a look at two popular products of the brand.
Eddie Bauer Men’s CirrusLite Down Jacket
Our first pick by Eddie Bauer is the Men’s CirrusLite Down Jacket. A versatile garment that is made with 100% nylon construction and StormRepel DWR water-resistant finish.
It offers a high warmth performance thanks to its 650 fill-power Premium Down insulation. Available in different colors, it is a classic fit and is suitable for those who like traveling. It is ultralight and packable, for cold weather and low temperatures conditions.
Eddie Bauer Women’s Sun Valley Down Parka
Our second pick for Eddie Bauer is the Women’s Sun Valley Down Parka. Its shell is made of nylon, polyester and cotton.
Available in different colors, it provides insulation without too much weight, thanks to the 650 fill-power Premium Down.
Versatile, comfortable and soft, it is ideal for women who need to stay warm in the coldest weather conditions, without renouncing to aesthetic features.
Eddie Bauer provides high quality jackets and clothing that come with an affordable price. With an average expense of $70 – $250, you’ll take home something really suitable for the worse weather conditions, with an eye to the aesthetic features.
Are Eddie Bauer’s jackets worth the price?
We can say that they are high-quality jackets, light and comfortable that are not very expensive. Considering the quality and history of the brand, in our opinion these products are worth the price.
2. Canada Goose
A short history of the brand
Since 1957, Canada Goose is synonimous of high-quality and luxury apparel. Founded by Sam Tick, this brand has known a great development, thanks also to the strong importance given to high quality manufacture.
Their apparel have also appeared on the screen in movies like “The Day After Tomorrow” and “National Treasure”.
Despite the prices, Canada Goose has become a must especially in places where there is always the need to have a comfortable and warm wardrobe, to face the very cold winters.
Materials and Manufacture
Polyester and Nylon are used to make linings and shells of their jackets, while the strongest feature of Canada Goose jackets and parkas is the quality of the down used to isolate them.
Knowing that natural down is a very good insulator, the Goose and Duck down used to produce jackets is of the best quality and provides great warmth.
The down is also certified and fully traceable. The Canada Goose Down Transparency Standard™ is therefore their commitment to support the ethical sourcing and responsible use of down in their products (source).

The other point of strength of Canada Goose lies in their manufacturing process and the precision of details.
Thanks to their high quality materials and meticulous controlling process (a 13-step process), their jackets and parkas are known to last for many years.
As for Canada Goose, we have selected:
Canada Goose Men’s Expedition Parka Coat
The first is the Expedition parka for men. Its shell is made of polyester and cotton, and the insulation is 625 fill-power white duck down.
With its fill it is a warm and versatile parka, available in different colors. It is an iconic coat of the brand, perfect for the coldest temperatures.
Canada Goose Women’s Expedition Parka
Our second pick is the women’s version of the Expedition parka. We chose again the Expedition design because of the great warmth that this parka provides.
The length is ideal for it to keep you warm, even if outside it’s 20°C below zero. The jacket is made of Polyester and Cotton, with a 625 fill-power white duck down insulation.
Price is not the strongest point of Canada Goose, it starts at around $600-$800 and goes up from there.
Are Canada Goose’s parkas and jackets worth the price?
Many of those who wear Canada Goose say that their parkas and jackets are worth the price. If you actually live in very cold places, this choice, in our opinion may be the ideal one. This also because they are known to be long-lasting products.
But, on the other hand, if you live in a place where you actually don’t have specific needs (temperatures are not that low), we think that you can look for more affordable brands.
3. Which Brand is Better?
Let’s now see which brand, in our opinion, is the better option between the two.
Eddie Bauer provides warmth and safety for outdoor activities, thanks to its technology and insulation. On the other hand, Canada Goose is a guarantee of quality and warmth, but with higher prices.
So, if you are looking for a right compromise between good quality and lower prices, we think that Eddie Bauer will be the better choice for you. Of course, according to your own necessities.
But, if you live up North, where temperatures are very low and winters are harsh, a Canada Goose parka will be the better option. Besides, if you have a relatively high budget and love good quality and performing products, Canada Goose is the brand to go with.
For normal outdoor life, we think Eddie Bauer is a good option: practical and relatively affordable.
