To start off this year’s single review articles, we will be taking a look at one of the most interesting jackets, when it comes to design and features. We are reviewing Evolution II Triclimate for men by The North Face.

For those of you familiar with our reviews, you are well aware of our fascination with this brand’s products and it is a recurring choice in most of the articles of the website.

And for those who are newcomers, first of all welcome to our page! Secondly, The North Face is an American brand established in 1966, that manufactures outerwear, footwear, coats, shirts and different equipment like backpacks, sleeping bags and other mostly camping or hiking related gear.

They are renown for the use of their trademarked fabric technologies such as DryVent, HyVent and several others, which have made this brand’s products, especially jackets, to not only perform well in harsh conditions, but be fully weatherproof.

With all that being said, it is time to turn our attention at the jacket of the day, which, like the brand itself, is a recurring product, previously featured in another collection.

Evolution II Triclimate is a functional jacket, designed for ease in movement and high resistance towards both weather and environmental conditions, you will see for yourself as to why it deserves its very own separate review.

* Note: The availability of the clothes (including colors and sizes) might change at any time. Also please check the clothes’ materials and features on the various shops before buying. We do our best to assure the accuracy of our articles, but sometimes they might contain errors.

When To Wear It

Evolution II Triclimate is intended as a jacket that can be worn in all four seasons, due to the well-thought 3-in-1 design and its key features. This is a jacket with two layers which can be attached or separated as necessary by zippers.

We will be discussing material and the fabric technology it comes with, in the next part, but for now, what you need to know is that the inner layer is made of fleece, while the outer shell is HyVent nylon.

The 3-in-1 design makes it versatile not just for when to wear it but also in functionality. It can be used either as a daily or sport jacket. You can wear it daily, most of the year, because it is highly durable, resistant to tear and wear and it adapts to climate and temperature effortlessly. It is especially suited for those who live in areas with cold winter and damp summer.

When it comes to wearing it as a jacket for sports or outdoor activities in general, it is where you will see it perform beautifully. The sleeves allow you to be as mobile and flexible as you prefer, without getting in the way.

If you are wondering about the warmer seasons, the outer shell, when worn separately, makes a great light jacket, with ventilation areas and a highly breathable fabric, which will reduce perspiration and will keep the body cool and comfortable. The ventilation areas are placed under the armpits and are easily opened by zippers.

During winter, especially in windy days, the jacket’s inner fleece layer will fully insulate the heat on the inside offering plenty of warmth. As for rainy or snowy days, this jacket is waterproof and windproof, not only because of the fabric, but due to several other additional features. First and foremost, it is the hood.

The hood comes in a special design, with the front of it standing straight and longer than typically, in order to make rain and snow fall off the jacket, without it touching the face. It is adjustable with drawstrings placed on both sides and one placed at the back, to fully tighten it around the head if necessary. When it is not needed, it can be rolled up underneath the collar, turning it into a thicker and much more insulating collar.

Speaking of which, secondly it is high and stand-up. The reason for high collars is to prevent cold drafts from getting through and inside the jacket, first and foremost, while also providing warmth for the neck.

And lastly, it gets entirely cold-proof with the cuff fasteners and the hem drawstrings, which can be tightened to completely close off the jacket around the hips.

If you are not a fan of having to carry a bag around, there are several pockets on the jacket, all with enough space for carrying small valuables such as phones, mp3 players, keys etc. On the outer layer, there are only two side pockets with zipper closures, both of which lined with fleece in order to warm up the hands if gloves are not in the picture. The inner fleece layer has two outer pockets, as well, and two inner pockets.

This jacket closes to the front with a waterproof zipper and has a storm flap covering it and taped seams to completely make the jacket waterproof, with no chance of rain or snow getting through.

As it is typical in The North Face’s jackets, there are minimal logos placed on it, which makes this a good option for those looking to wear it to work or prefer a modest look, without extravagant color options or too many patterns.

All in all, if both layers are present, it is a great winter jacket which will stay warm and weatherproof all day long. If you are wearing the outer layer, it makes for a very good spring, cool summer and early autumn jacket, as it is breathable and lightweight. Nearing autumn and early winter, the inner layer on its own, provided that the weather is dry, would be the best option.

Material

Time to get technical! Let’s start with the inner layer, to change things up a bit. By now, you know that it is made of fleece. Fleece is a specific type of Polyester, incredibly insulating and it warms up quickly, despite how thick or thin it is. It is also quite breathable and has very good wind-resistance.

In Evolution II Triclimate’s case it is Polartec Classic 100 fleece, very lightweight, comfortable, soft and surprisingly cold-resistant.

The outer jacket has an inner lining made of 100% Polyester, mostly in the form of mesh lining to help with ventilation, while the outer lining is made of 100% Nylon. It has the HyVent outer lining, a technology which works in several aspects. First of all, it makes the jacket waterproof and windproof, without making it heavier and bulkier. And secondly it makes the jacket fast-drying and breathable.

The Polartec is also used as the pockets’ inner lining, as well as on the inside of the collar, adding to the warmth and keeping everything warm and cozy.

Color Selection

The color selection is another feature on this jacket as there are several options, making it easier to find your favorite color or one that best suits your style and needs.

They are mostly muted and toned down colors, matte and classic choices for a jacket, some with two color combinations and some in just one color. These include: Asphalt grey, Black ink green, Burnt olive, Cosmic blue, Green, Navy-Urban blue, Black, Light grey, Sequoia red and Grey-Asphalt.

For those with more daring preferences and that enjoy bright colors, the Urban blue, Snorkel blue and Red-Grey are worth considering.

We would recommend the first colors especially to those who are looking for a daily jacket or one to wear to work, as they will not take away from your outfit and are very easily matched with most clothes.

User Reviews, Feedback & Opinions

Numerous customer reviews for this jacket, so let’s see what they had to say after trying it.

First things first, the quality is what has impressed most customers. It not only feels high quality, but also shows it.

It is a winter jacket that is designed to be waterproof and windproof, and it certainly is. The reviews attest to that, with several tests in strong wind and heavy rain. The jacket remained completely dry the entire time. The hood’s design is something that came in handy during those days, as it does indeed keep the rain off the face and it is very easily accessed or tucked away.

Some users were a bit on the edge because of how lightweight and thin the jacket is, however, when worn it was definitely why they had bought it. A warm winter jacket, that is. Many reviewers wore it in below 0°C temperatures and they were pleasantly surprised by how warm it felt and the fact that it does all of that, without being bulky, is a definite bonus.

For those who tried it in all three ways, they have several things to say. The fleece is soft and manages to provide considerable warmth, and the outer jacket is light, very comfortable to move around in and indeed, highly breathable.

They most definitely enjoyed how versatile this jacket is and how practical it is, too, because they didn’t have to purchase several different jackets and it can also be packed easily, making travelling with it simple. Especially when travelling to areas with unpredictable weather.

Something that bears saying, is that the main zipper closes on the ladies’ side, which isn’t a nuisance, but we thought you should know about it.
