1. Timberland

A Short History of the Brand

In 1952, Nathan Swartz bought half of the shares of the Abington Shoe Company. Later, he managed to buy it all and moved the headquarters to New Hampshire, turning it to Timberland after a few years.

Did you know that Timberland started by producing waterproof boots for workers? It wasn’t meant for fashion in the beginning.

In 1973, they produced the waterproof Timberland Original Yellow Boot™. They were made of leather to withstand the harsh winters in New Hampshire.

Later, in the 90s, the famous boots were worn by hip-hop and rap singers, which marked the transition from work boots to fashion boots.

Materials and Manufacture

At Timberland, they aim for a greener world. Their products include renewable, organic and recycled materials.

They use waterproof leather. The boots are rugged and designed with care to handle the hard work and weather conditions.

Among the technologies they use when manufacturing their boots, more specifically the insoles, we can mention the Anti-Fatigue technology.

It uses small hexagonal structures that absorb shock and return the energy back to the foot, thus giving you comfort, reducing foot fatigue and providing strength when you need to wear the boots for long hours.

Popular Designs

As usual, we have picked two of Timberland’s bestseller boots. Let’s take a look:

Prices

Timberland offers a wide variety of prices. They range from $70 to $300, with an average price of around $150.

Although, they are considered an expensive brand, we think that $150 is a good price for a high-quality pair of boots. Of course, if you manage to get them at this price.

Are Timberland’s Boots Worth the Price?

Yes, we believe Timberland’s boots are worth it. They will last for a long time, are comfortable and designed to offer a unique quality.

But what we personally like very much about these boots is their simple design, always stylish and easy to combine with the rest of the outfit.

2. Caterpillar

A Short History of the Brand

Caterpillar (Caterpillar Inc.) was originally born as a tractors company. Founded in 1925 by two competitors, Benjamin Holt and C. L. Best, they merged their companies to establish the “Caterpillar Tractor Company”.

Years later, in 1988, they launched the first boots that were mainly designed as work boots.

The footwear they offer is based on the same values of their tractors: honest work, strength and integrity.

Cat Footwear entered as a brand in the fashion world, with the famous “CAT” yellow logo. In addition to footwear, they also provide various clothing items.

Materials and Manufacture

Cat Footwear uses different technologies for manufacturing their boots.

Ease is a technology that gives you more comfort by using a foam midsole that is more shock absorbing and lighter than standard EVA, while FlexFwd provides a custom footbed with cork blend and 4mm foam, for cushion, lightness and more abrasion resistance than rubber.

Other technologies include: Ergo, for more grip, maximum comfort and more durability, and Flexion that adjusts to your body’s movement with extra flexibility while always keeping an eye on safety.

Popular Designs

Now let’s take a look at two popular designs by CAT.

Prices

Caterpillar’s prices range from $70 to $200. The average price is around $150. Not very expensive if you find the right offer.

CAT offers different styles of footwear that have protection and durability in common. With a wide range of prices, you can always find something suitable for your budget.

Are Caterpillar’s Boots Worth the Price?

Well, we think they are. They last for a long time and can handle different weather conditions. They have safety features, so you can use them in many different locations and tough working conditions.

3. Which Brand is Better?

Both brands started out producing work boots, which means that thanks to the experience they have acquired over the years, you can count on the durability and safety of their products.

Trying to find a winner doesn’t seem like easy work this time. They are both very similar, with high-quality designs, and reliable materials.

Timberland provides more products and styles, however, in this case we’d choose Caterpillar. CAT offers more affordable boots, and we see CAT’s products as more suitable for outdoor sites and working locations. But, of course, this is our opinion.

Some of Caterpillar’s boots come with the “Electrical Hazard” technology which protects against open circuits in dry conditions up to 600 volts. A nice safety feature to have, if you ask us.

Timberland has some boots with a similar technology, too.

In conclusion, whichever option you opt for, you won’t be sacrificing many features. They both function well, they are durable, and they still manage to be aesthetically pleasing.
